The most widely grown grape varieties in Tasmania are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Pinot Noir is the earlier ripening grape and and is ideally grown in cool climates, which explains why Tasmania produces some of Australia's best.

The Pinot grape is difficult to grow because cropping and disease control are critical to success. In good years, and with careful management however, it is possible to produce wines of immense flavour and complexity. Picked early and crushed without skins before fermentation, Pinot Noir grapes contribute greatly to the production of fine "champagnes".

On sale at present is our 2007 vintage Pinot Noir. The grapes were harvested on 6th May and the grapes were our ripest yet. There were no problems with wasps this year and little if any bird damage, so crop levels were reasonably high.

The 2007 Pinot Noir has an alcohol content of 14%,our highest ever, and results in a nice firm "mouthfeel" which is balanced perfectly by delicate flavours of ripe plum with subtle tannins on the finish.
